The Finnish sauna is a substantial part of Finnish culture and daily life – very many households has a sauna. Our guided sauna programme takes place at Paljakka Lake Resort’s three lakeside saunas, a lakeside hot tub and the long pier offering the possibility for ice swimming. As part of our weekly program for winter 2024-2025, Saunas and hot tub are heated and open to everyone on Sunday evenings.

On a clear winter evening, while bathing in the outdoor hot tub, we admire the stars in the sky and, if lucky, also Northern lights. Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon dependent on weather and solar wind activity; we cannot guarantee their appearance.

Our sauna guide gives you tips how to sauna like a true Finn. The sauna and ice swimming is a classic combo. In between the gentle heat of the sauna sessions and lying in outdoor hot tub, it’s also important to cool off. Wrap yourself into a soft towel, enjoy the winter scenery and let cool winter air refresh your body or take a dip into the lake and experience an icy swim.

Our guide will tell you how we Finns do ice swimming and few important tips before you do it. A clod plunge after a sauna is the unique Finnish sauna experience. On a winter night you might even catch a glimpse of the northern lights as you bathe in the hot tub.

Sauna Garden is located withing walking distance from Safari Kitchen & Bar resraurant (300m), i.e both are located in the heart of Paljakka resort center.

This program is available as guaranteed departures. Guaranteed departure means that the program will take place, even if there is only one person enrolled.

Your guided tour starts with meeting your guide in Safari Kitchen & Bar restaurant, Kotila (Paljakka), Finland.

What will you need to bring?

Swimsuit/swimming trunks, towel(s), water/drinks (no glass bottles). Recommendation (not essentials) for ice swimmers: a beanie / woolly hat.

Clothing / equipment recommended:
As we walk from the restaurant to the Sauna Garden, please remember to dress warmly according to the weather. We recommend you wear warm and comfortable outdoors wear and warm winter shoes.
