We have trekking routes for all tastes, all in all about 100 kilometers worth. Experienced trekkers can take a hiking trip that lasts for several days on the 60 kilometers long Köngäskierros, but you can also admire the beautiful landscape on the 13 kilometers long Ilveskierros in the vicinity of the natural park, or a day hike at the 20 kilometer long Paljakka trail.
The Paljakka natural park is the only place in Kainuu, and actually in entire Finland south from Lapland, where there are wide ranges of forests, that have not been touched by man. This untouched piece of nature is a wonderful place to make a day trip to. In the area there is a hiking route, which allows you to see the Holstinvaara and its hills full of beautiful, old forest. Along the route, almost at the top of the hill, there is a pond, Leililampi. At Kilpisuo you can see how high up the small pines, typically growing in the swamps, are replaced with stunted spruces. Since we are in a natural park, you cannot stray from the hiking route.
